Lee County
Moores Mill Road in Lee County is one of the highest growth areas with new subdivisions. Just east of the intersection of Moores Mill Road and Society Hill Road is a low point in the roadway which overtops during extreme events. This has been a challenge for the County to maintain. The project required 30YD3 of local Ready Mix. Ready Mix USA provided a front discharge truck which reduced the need for someone to work the concrete flume; the driver operated the flume from inside the truck. While this project required 4 people, others were on hand to view The RETEM System. Workers spread the Ready Mix with concrete pulls, rakes and shovels. On Wednesday April 17th, crews shaped the shoulder. The next day, work began at 8:00 AM with the digging of a trench along the edge of pavement. The 3D Steel Grid was placed at 9:15 AM and completed at 10:00 AM. The first Ready Mix truck arrived at 12:30 PM, and both were emptied within 20 minutes each. At 2:30 PM the project was completed.GDOT District 3
Roadside ditches along I-85 (Troup & Meriwether Counties) and I-75 (Coweta & Henry Counties) in District 3 were drastically damaged during recent clearing and grubbing operations. The concrete flumes originally placed during interstate construction had been destroyed. The district decided to develop an Invitation to Bid with two alternatives. The contractor could select to use either traditional concrete placement or The RETEM System. The RETEM System was chosen after several successful projects in the Thomaston District. S.H. Creel Contractors used only 3 pieces of equipment: two mini excavators and one skip steer. The two mini excavators were used for removing broken concrete and shaping the base, while the skid steer was used to transport concrete from the Ready Mix truck to the site. Manpower included 5 persons, none of which had concrete flatwork experience. Even with this seeming detriment, the team was able to place 400 FT2 of The RETEM System in 1 hour. Then, the trucks easily emptied in 1.5 hours.Hattiesburg Repair
The SmartUp Team assisted with the repair of a girder in Hattiesburg, MS recently. The girder flange was damaged during construction. Instead of a costly replacement, Dave Tomley, Gulf Coast Precast Chief Engineer, specified Ultra-High Performance Concrete to repair the afflicted section.
The SmartUp Team delivered the mixer and all materials to be mixed within 10 yards of the bridge. The fresh UHPC was easily transported in 5 gallon buckets to the repair. All product was mixed, poured, and covered within 2.5 hours.
The Contractor was Cotton Creek Transport of Laurel, MS. The precaster was Gulf Coast Precast.
